1 Interesting Case In Digital Tech Media

Digital Tech Media Blaming Apple

The public at large incorrectly assume that false news or the biased nature of digital tech media does not extend to tech news today. Digital trends are essentially based on the consumer’s perception. Case in point; Apple. What other company dominates the technology news on a mere whim by just holding a glorified press conference.

Their flagship, device the iPhone has been lagging behind industry standards and soaring above median market price since their re-invention of the modern smartphone. Apple jealously controls their information and so their public perception. But most of it’s brand loyal consumers get all of their news exclusively from the company itself. This is a logical fallacy that has become the accepted norm in technology news today.

You, the discerning internet user, should go to third parties. Independent blogs. News companies to truly build up an objective opinion on tech news and digital trends. And it is a documented fact that Apple incorporates planned failure in its tech product life-cycles.

Apple was fined for the lump sum of 25 million euros (£21m, $27m). Because they knowingly slowed down previous iPhone models without taking consent from customers.

France’s competition and fraud watchdog DGCCRF imposed the fine in 2017, Apple admits that they did slow down devices, but claims the reason for it was to “prolong the life” of said devices. So the French regulatory body alleges that iPhone owners “were not informed that installing iOS updates (10.2.1 and 11.2) could slow down their devices”.  Apple admits to the “crime of deceptive commercial practice by omission” and has to pay the fine.

How it relates to digital tech news today:

Apple actively slows down it flagship devices till this day. Namely:

  • iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus running iOS 12.1 or higher
  • iPhone X running iOS 12.1 or higher
  • iPhone XS, XS Max and XR running iOS 13.1 or higher

“The effects of performance management on these newer models may be less noticeable due to their more advanced hardware and software design” is their current tagline and justification for their predatory practices.
